Watchnlearn ("we", "us", "our") provides language-learning tools at watchnlearn.site and through the Watchnlearn Chrome extension. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
1. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to:
- Users of the Watchnlearn website
- Users of the Watchnlearn Chrome extension for YouTube
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use our services.
2. Information we collect
Account and authentication
When you create an account or sign in on watchnlearn.site, we use Clerk to manage authentication. Clerk sets session cookies on watchnlearn.site so you stay signed in.
The Chrome extension uses your existing sign-in session to connect to your account. It does not ask for a separate password inside the extension.
Data you provide when using language-learning features
When you are signed in and use Watchnlearn, we may process:
- Words and phrases you click, translate, mark as known, or save to learn
- Translations generated for those words or subtitle text
- Language settings (learning language, translation language, and related preferences)
- Vocabulary progress (for example, known vs. learning status)
Context for saved words, which may include:
- the source sentence from YouTube captions
- the YouTube video ID
- the timestamp in the video where the word was saved
When you request subtitles or translations for a YouTube video, we may process:
- the YouTube video ID or URL
- subtitle text needed to provide translations
- source and target language codes
Usage and plan information
We process information needed to provide your subscription or free-tier limits, such as:
- whether you are signed in
- your plan (free or pro)
- translation or feature usage counts where applicable
Data stored locally in the Chrome extension
The extension stores some information only on your device using Chrome's local storage:
- subtitle display preferences (for example, font size)
- optional subtitle language preference
- a temporary cache of translated subtitles for recently viewed videos (limited cache size and retention)
This local data is used to improve performance and remember your preferences. It is not used for advertising.
Data we do not intentionally collect through the extension
The extension is designed not to:
- read cookies from websites other than to detect sign-in changes on watchnlearn.site
- track your general YouTube browsing history beyond the video you are watching when you use Watchnlearn features
- sell your personal information
When you are not signed in, core overlay features may work in a limited way; translation and saving words require sign-in.
3. How we use your information
We use collected information to:
- authenticate you and keep you signed in
- translate subtitles and individual words
- save vocabulary to your account and sync it with the web app
- track learning progress (for example, known vs. learning words)
- enforce free-tier and subscription limits
- improve reliability and performance (including local subtitle caching)
- provide customer support and maintain security
We do not use your data for third-party advertising.
4. How the Chrome extension uses cookies
The extension requests Chrome's cookies permission for one purpose:
to detect when your watchnlearn.site authentication session changes (sign-in, sign-out, or session refresh), so the extension can update your signed-in state on YouTube
The extension uses your session only to make authenticated requests to Watchnlearn APIs on your behalf. It does not access cookies from unrelated websites for advertising or tracking.
5. Third-party services
We use trusted third-party services to operate Watchnlearn, including:

6. Data retention
- Account and vocabulary data is kept while your account is active so you can continue learning and reviewing words.
- Cached subtitle data in the extension is stored locally on your device for a limited time and pruned automatically.
- You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at zakiazizi1841992@gmail.com.
7. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share data only:
- with service providers that help us run Watchnlearn (for example, authentication and hosting)
- when required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public
- in connection with a business transfer, if applicable
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including authenticated API access and secure session handling. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
9. Your choices and rights
You can:
- Sign out on watchnlearn.site to end your session
- Uninstall the Chrome extension at any time
- Clear local extension data via Chrome extension settings
- Access and manage your vocabulary and account settings on the website
- Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data where applicable under your local laws
Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under laws such as GDPR or CCPA. Contact us to exercise them.
10. Children's privacy
Watchnlearn is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. International users
If you use Watchnlearn from outside the country where our servers are located, your information may be processed in other countries with different data protection laws.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of Watchnlearn after changes means you accept the updated policy.
